Description
This online + hands-on practitioner training is designed for BIPOC licensed massage therapists and experienced bodyworkers who want to learn womb-supportive bodywork for the entire body, including sobada de matriz and acomodadas—ancestral practices used to support the uterus and surrounding abdominal structures. Due to the depth of the techniques being taught, practitioners need a minimum of two years of professional experience and a strong foundation in anatomy, kinesiology, and therapeutic bodywork. Sobada de matriz is an ancestral practice rooted in Mexican Traditional Medicine that focuses on the energetic health of an individual as well as the physical position of the abdominal and pelvic organs, particularly the intestines, uterus, ovaries, and bladder. This training introduces acomodadas, an ancestral practice used to gently guide the uterus and/or bladder into alignment when appropriate. Students will learn how to assess the entire body + abdominal region through touch, when acomodadas may be considered, and the importance of working slowly and respectfully, in reverence of the body & womb. Practitioners will learn: • Perspectives on womb health from Mexican Traditional Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Ayurveda (online prior to in-person training) • Relevant anatomy and kinesiology of the abdomen and pelvis (online prior to in-person training) • Ways to acknowledge and honor the energetic body, spirit and ancestors of the individual • How to perform a full-body assessment and therapeutic massage, including supportive stretches • Assessment and palpation skills for the abdominal region • A step-by-step abdominal, fertility, and sobada de matriz bodywork sequence • Techniques to release tension in the abdomen, pelvis, and surrounding fascia • An introduction to acomodadas and when they may be appropriate • Contraindications and safety considerations when working with the womb space • Intake procedures and client communication for womb-centered sessions Practitioners will leave this training with practical tools they can begin integrating into their professional practice while honoring the cultural roots, traditions, and lineages from which these practices originate. Participants are responsible for practicing all techniques within the legal scope of their professional license.
