Therapeutic Massage
- 01A sobada de matriz is a traditional womb massage rooted in Mexican Traditional Medicina. This beautiful, ancestral practice works with the liver, stomach, small and large intestines, uterus (matriz), ovaries, bladder, and surrounding muscles/fascia to support healthy circulation, lymphatic drainage, organ mobility, nervous system regulation, and overall pelvic balance. A sobada de matriz may or may not include an acomodada (uterine and/or bladder adjustment). An acomodada, when appropriate, is a specific and intentional technique used to gently encourage the uterus into optimal alignment if it has shifted from its natural position. This technique is only performed when indicated, safe, and within proper timing guidelines — for example, it is not performed during pregnancy, within 40 days postpartum, or within one year of a C-section. Not every sobada de matriz session includes an adjustment. Each sobada is thoughtfully guided by the client’s cycle phase, reproductive history, current health status, and therapeutic goals. The intention of this work is to restore structural balance, support hormonal harmony, and cultivate a deeper connection to the womb space.
- 02You should not receive a uterine adjustment if you: • Are currently pregnant or suspect you may be pregnant • Are menstruating (active bleeding) • Have an IUD or internal birth control device in place • Are between ovulation and your expected period if actively trying to conceive • Have active cancer or are undergoing cancer treatment (unless cleared by your physician) • Have acute infections, fever, or severe inflammation • Have recent abdominal or pelvic surgery (without medical clearance) • Have hernias, broken bones, open wounds, or acute injuries in the abdominal area • Have serious medical conditions that would contraindicate deep abdominal bodywork Postpartum & Cesarean Guidelines • If you are within 40 days postpartum, a uterine adjustment is not recommended. However, a sobada de matriz (womb massage) may be received during this time if you are feeling well and have no complications. • A uterine adjustment may be performed after 40 days postpartum, provided there were no birth complications and you have received appropriate medical clearance. • If you have had a C-section, sobada de matriz (womb massage) may be received as soon as the scar is fully healed. You must wait one full year before receiving a uterine adjustment. If you have a history of complex womb conditions (large fibroids, severe endometriosis, hernias, cysts, prolapse, etc.), clearance from your healthcare provider may be required before receiving treatment. Your safety is always the priority. When in doubt, please consult your physician and communicate openly during your intake process so we can determine whether this work is appropriate for you.
- 03Sobada de matriz offers numerous benefits, including: • Improved uterine alignment and womb organ health • Enhanced blood circulation in the pelvic area • Reduced menstrual discomfort and cramping • Support for postpartum recovery • Promotion of fertility and hormone balance • Relief from digestive issues • Emotional and energetic healing by releasing stored tension
- 04Sobada de matriz is generally not painful; it is a therapeutic and relaxing experience. However, some clients may feel slight discomfort in areas with tension or blockages. This discomfort is usually mild and temporary, often easing as the session progresses. The intensity of the massage can be adjusted based on your comfort level, and you are encouraged to communicate openly with me about any discomfort you experience. Some soreness after the session is normal and temporary.
- 05No, you will not be naked during a sobada de matriz session. Your comfort and privacy are my top priorities. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing that you won't mind getting oil on. A sheet or blanket will be used to drape and cover you appropriately. Only the areas being worked on, such as the abdomen and the area right above your pubic bone, will be uncovered during the massage, and this will be done in a way that respects your modesty and comfort at all times.
- 06It is best to get a sobada de matriz during the time between your periods (after you stop bleeding up until you start bleeding again). If you are trying to conceive, it is best to get a sobada de matriz after your period ends up until you ovulate; you may continue getting a sobada de matriz only if you do not conceive. Sobada de matriz is contraindicated during pregnancy or if you have an internal birth control device such as an IUD. If you think you may be pregnant, please wait until after you start your period to book a session.
- 07This session begins with a consultation to discuss your health history, current concerns, and goals. Following our consultation, you will receive a sobada de matriz; this type of massage focuses on the abdomen and pelvic area, using gentle yet firm techniques to support uterine alignment, improve circulation, and release tension. You will also receive guidance on self-care practices to complement the massage. The atmosphere is calming, with meditative music and aromatherapy to help you feel at ease.
- 08Every body and every womb story is unique. Some clients conceive after just one session, while others benefit from a full 6–12 week series (or longer) to address cycle imbalances, stress, stagnation, and lifestyle patterns that have developed over time. If conception is your goal, the number of sessions needed depends on factors such as: • how long you've experienced symptoms or cycle irregularities • stress levels and lifestyle habits • digestive and pelvic health • consistency with at-home protocols (steaming, castor oil packs, etc.) During your consultation, we’ll assess your goals and create a recommended plan that supports your body’s timeline—not a rushed one. Fertility doctors and experts recommend preparing your body at least 3-6 months in advance to create an optimal environment for conception. This preparation period allows time to balance hormones, improve egg quality, and ensure overall reproductive health. It involves adopting a nutrient-rich diet, managing stress, maintaining a healthy weight, and incorporating practices like sobada de matriz to enhance blood flow to the reproductive organs and support uterine alignment. Giving your body this time can increase your chances of a healthy pregnancy and a smooth conception journey.
